At Envy Eyewear Boutique, we make children’s eye exams relaxed, engaging, and easy for the whole family. We’ll check how well your child sees, how their eyes work together, and whether any concerns could affect their development, learning, or everyday life.

Why Do Kids Need Regular Eye Exams?

Kids aren’t always going to tell you they can’t see the board clearly. They may simply assume everyone sees the world the same way they do.

A comprehensive eye exam can identify vision problems and eye health concerns before they become obvious. Regular exams are especially important once children reach school age, when so much of their learning depends on clear, comfortable vision.

We can assess for concerns including:

  • Common refractive errors, including myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism
  • Amblyopia, commonly known as lazy eye
  • Strabismus, or eye misalignment
  • Myopia progression
  • Eye teaming and focusing issues
  • Vision concerns that may affect learning and development
  • Overall eye health

Myopia Management for Growing Eyes

Myopia, or nearsightedness, is increasingly common in children. It can make things like seeing the classroom board, reading signs, or spotting a friend across the playground more difficult.

If your child is developing myopia, we can discuss options for managing its progression. Depending on their individual needs, this may include myopia control contact lenses such as MiSight 1 day, multifocal contact lenses, or other appropriate approaches.

The earlier we understand what is happening, the more options we may have to help.

MiSight 1 day contact lenses are daily disposable lenses specifically designed for children with myopia. They provide clear vision throughout the day while incorporating a special optical design intended to help slow the progression of nearsightedness.

Because they are replaced daily, children don’t need to clean or store their lenses overnight. We’ll also teach new wearers how to safely insert, remove, and care for their lenses.

Low-dose atropine eye drops may be recommended for children whose myopia is progressing. Rather than correcting vision like glasses or contact lenses, atropine is used as part of a myopia management plan to help slow how quickly nearsightedness increases as the eyes grow.

Your optometrist can assess your child’s vision and discuss whether atropine may be appropriate based on their age, prescription, and rate of progression.

Multifocal contact lenses use different zones within the lens to help provide clear vision at multiple distances. Certain multifocal designs may also be used as part of a myopia management strategy for children.

They can be a good option for kids who are ready for contact lenses and want more freedom from glasses during school, sports, and everyday activities. We’ll help determine whether this type of lens is a good fit for your child.

Multifocal toric contact lenses are designed for children who need correction for both myopia and astigmatism. They combine multifocal optics with a toric design to help provide clear, stable vision while supporting a myopia management approach. Finding the right lens can take a little more precision, but that’s where we come in.

We’ll assess your child’s prescription, vision needs, and lifestyle to find an option that works for them.

When Should My Child Have an Eye Exam?

You don’t need to wait until your child is struggling to see. Regular exams let us monitor how their vision is developing and catch changes early.

We generally recommend annual eye exams for children, although your optometrist may recommend a different schedule based on your child’s vision, eye health, age, or risk factors.

If your child already wears glasses or contacts, regular follow-ups are especially important to make sure their prescription and vision needs keep up with them.

Kids’ Contacts and Eyewear

Glasses should help your child see clearly, but they can also be a pretty great way to show off some personality.

We offer a curated selection of eyewear for kids, with styles that are comfortable, practical, and actually fun to wear. For children who are ready for contacts, we also offer contact lens exams, fittings, and instruction to help them learn how to insert, remove, and care for their lenses confidently.

Whether your kid wants something colourful, classic, sporty, or completely out there, we’ll help them find something they love.

It’s never too early to start monitoring your child’s vision. We see children starting at age 4 and recommend regular exams throughout childhood to keep up with their developing vision.

Not necessarily. Glasses are one option for correcting myopia, but some children may also be candidates for myopia management contact lenses or other approaches. We’ll help you understand your options.

Yes. Contact lenses can be an option for some children, depending on their age, maturity, prescription, and ability to handle lens care. We provide contact lens fittings and instruction to help children learn how to safely insert, remove, and care for their lenses.
